25 to 60 in the wells.
10 to 12 from the district.
Herriman blends two waters that are nothing alike. The city puts its own wells at 25 to 60 grains per gallon and the Jordan Valley district water it buys at 10 to 12. The mix leans toward district water in summer, and from mid-October the city runs on district water only. A softener set correctly for the wells is badly oversized by November, which is the whole problem worth solving here.

- Hardness scaleThe USGS classifies water above 180 mg/L as calcium carbonate (about 10.5 grains per gallon) as very hard, 121 to 180 mg/L as hard, and 61 to 120 mg/L as moderately hard. USGS
We publish the utility's own figures and link them so you can check us. Your tap is still what counts — hardness moves with the source and the season — so we measure before we size anything.

How install works →The mid-October switch
From mid-October Herriman runs on district water only, which is a fraction of the hardness of its own wells. Equipment that ignores that swing is either wasting salt for half the year or falling behind for the other half.
